Tanlie ("we", "our", or "us") provides UV tracking, tanning guidance, skin insights, and sun exposure monitoring to help you build healthier sun habits. This Privacy Policy explains what information Tanlie handles, how we use it, and your choices when you use the Tanlie mobile application ("the App").
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Summary
- Tanlie is designed to work without a user account.
- Selfie / face images are processed on your device and stored locally on your device. We do not upload them to our servers.
- We do not use facial recognition, identity verification, or biometric identification.
- Location is used to provide UV index and weather-based guidance (via Apple services).
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple and RevenueCat; we do not receive your payment card details.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
Depending on how you use Tanlie, you may provide:
- Skin type and tanning preferences
- Tanning goals and onboarding responses
- Profile details you choose to enter (e.g. display name)
- Messages you send us for support or feedback
2.2 Face data and camera images
If you use AI Skin Analysis or take progress selfies, Tanlie requests access to your camera to capture a facial image.
What is collected
- A selfie image you choose to capture
- Derived estimates from that image (e.g. estimated skin tone, sensitivity, tanning progress metrics)
- Related preferences you provide (e.g. skin type, tanning goals)
What is not collected
- Tanlie does not perform facial recognition, identity verification, or biometric identification
- We do not build a faceprint to identify you across apps or services
- We do not use face data for advertising or marketing profiling
How face data is used
Your selfie is used only to:
- Analyze visible skin characteristics on your device
- Estimate skin sensitivity and tanning-related metrics
- Personalize tanning routines and sun-exposure guidance
- Show your tanning progress in the App
Where face data is stored
- Selfie images and analysis results are stored locally on your device (in the App's secure storage and documents directory)
- We do not permanently store selfie images on our servers
How long face data is retained
- Face images and related results remain on your device until you delete tanning sessions/progress, clear related data in the App, or uninstall the App
- We do not retain copies on our servers
Sharing of face data
- Face images are not shared with third parties
- Analysis is performed on-device using Apple's system frameworks
- Selfie images are not sent to third-party AI providers
2.3 Location data
With your permission, Tanlie may access your device location to provide:
- Real-time UV index and forecasts
- Weather-aware tanning recommendations
- Sun exposure alerts for your area
Location is used only to deliver App functionality. We do not sell location data to advertisers.
You can disable location access in iOS Settings; some features may not work without it.
2.4 Health data (optional)
If you choose to connect Apple Health, Tanlie may read and/or write:
- Vitamin D related data
- Time in daylight / sun exposure related data
Health data is accessed only with your explicit permission through Apple HealthKit. Tanlie does not use Health data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
2.5 Device and usage information
To operate and improve the App, limited technical information may be processed, such as:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- General interaction with App features (e.g. onboarding steps completed, tanning sessions started, tabs viewed, paywall interactions, subscription events)
- Diagnostic or crash information that may be made available to us through Apple's developer tools
To understand how the App is used and to improve features, we may collect anonymized or pseudonymous usage information through a third-party product analytics service provider acting on our behalf. This may include an anonymous app identifier, app version, and events about how you interact with Tanlie (for example, which screens you open or which features you use). This data is used only to measure and improve the App.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers in the App. We do not use usage analytics for cross-app tracking, advertising profiling, or selling data to data brokers.
2.6 Subscription and purchase information
If you purchase Tanlie Pro, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card number.
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and restore purchases. RevenueCat may process:
- An anonymous app user identifier
- Purchase and subscription status
- Device-related identifiers needed to validate purchases
This information is used only to provide subscription functionality.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide UV tracking, forecasts, and tanning guidance
- Personalize routines based on your skin type and preferences
- Process optional skin analysis and progress photos
- Sync optional Health data when you enable it
- Manage subscriptions and restore purchases
- Respond to support requests
- Maintain security, troubleshoot issues, and improve the App
- Analyze aggregated usage to understand feature adoption and fix issues
We do not use face data for advertising, cross-app tracking, or selling data to data brokers.
4. Third-Party Services
Tanlie relies on the following categories of service providers:

5. Data Storage and Security
- Most personal content (including selfies and tanning history) stays on your device
- We use commercially reasonable safeguards appropriate to the data we handle
- No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure

7. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Decline camera access — skin analysis and selfies will be unavailable
- Decline location access — UV and weather features may be limited
- Decline Health access — Health sync will be disabled
- Delete on-device data — remove tanning sessions/progress or uninstall the App
- Manage subscriptions — in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
- Contact us — to ask about or request deletion of information we hold (e.g. support correspondence)
Depending on your region (including the EEA/UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. Contact us at support@tanlie.app.
8. Children's Privacy
Tanlie is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. International Users
If you use Tanlie outside your home country, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate (including the United States). We take steps consistent with applicable law when transferring data.
10. Health Disclaimer
Tanlie is for informational and wellness purposes only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
UV guidance, burn-risk estimates, Vitamin D values, and skin analysis results are estimates for awareness only — not lab results or clinical assessments. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical or skin-health decisions.
Excessive UV exposure may increase the risk of sunburn, premature skin aging, and skin cancer.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
